The works sung on this CD are complete as recorded; ever-changing ambient sound in the church makes it impossible to undertake digital editing in order to piece together a 'perfect take' while maintaining the integrity of a complete performance. Christ Church, New Haven, true to the ideals of the Oxford Movement, is located in a very urban setting at the intersection of Broadway, Elm and Park Streets and is a beautiful oasis in the midst of the city. The activities of Yale University and crowds of people and vehicular traffic surround the church building on three sides at all hours of the day and night and there is an inevitable amount of ambient city noise which finds its way into the church building. The listener will experience the Christ Church Choir as he or she would if seated in the church building-- no stops and starts, just a single complete performance which pays no heed to the sounds of the city without. The juxtaposition of singing in a  fourteenth-century decorated English Gothic-style building and the sounds of the modern city are accepted as part of the Christ Church experience.
